Just a minute longer ..... or less!

Thame Hurricanes 31 - 32 Jubilees

Wednesday 29th January brought Hurricanes' second game of the year and a full team turnout. Jubilees were sitting pretty at third in the league with Hurricanes gazing up with the strong possibility of edging up to the dizzying heights of mid-table.

The first quarter was a 20 goal thriller and tight to call but Hurricanes edged it 11-9. Some great passing and shooting by all and very few mistakes by either side. The second quarter saw Hurricanes surge forward. Great interceptions made made along with Jo's now signature lob into the goal circle to Hayley. Lucy even wanted to to get in on the shooting action but unfortuantely it wasn't fast 5 and the league have yet to introduce a rule to allow mid court players to score from just inside the goal third! They don't know what they're missing! It rattled Jubiless confidence and shots they were making before were being scooped away by Sue and Kate. A great quarter and Hurricanes were ahead by 7!

But Jubilees rallied after half time and dug their heels in while Hurricanes introduced a new mix of players and tried to find their rhythm. Free passes and shots weren't going Hurricanes way and they ended up 1 goal down with the final quarter to go and what a quarter it was ...

20 goals scored in the final quarter with minimal mistakes made by either team and top notch scoring by all. The final quarter couldn't split the teams - ten goals a piece meaning Hurricanes lost by one goal and you can't help thinking what if there was just one more minute?

Hurricanes remain buoyant after a great team display, MoM was given to Penny who was finding space all over the court ready to be an option for the pass. DoD was self awarded to Matt and no one was going to argue ;)

Although a close game giving a bit of a "what if?" feeling, Hurricanes achieved something they had struggled to do so far this season, lose and still win points! Their first 2 points - well done ladies! Steps in the right direction for this fabulous netball crew!
